An experience like no other!
Our intern Christina Grace, a junior studying Advertising Management at the University of Miami, participated in the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity last month, an annual event that brings together the best voices in marketing and advertising around the world. At the festival, Christina attended award shows every night, which opened her eyes to groundbreaking campaigns. Headline speakers at this year’s festival included actor and Founder of Hello Sunshine, Reese Witherspoon, Director John Chu, YouTube’s CEO Neal Mohan, and dozens of others.
Highlights
Some of Christina’s favorite moments included the opportunity to pitch a collaboration idea to GirlBossTown, aka Robyn Delmonte, the TikTok community’s very own public relations expert. Christina’s group pitched a collab between Goodles and Frankies Bikinis—and Robyn was all in! She picked their idea as the winner, so the group got to present it on her TikTok to 660K+ followers. “I am still in shock of how this all happened!”, says Christina. “I wish I went to more interactive workshops during the week because I learned the most from this experience.”
Another memorable moment was when she attended a talk called “Laughing at Doom: Using Humor to Talk About Illness/Hellscapes”, featuring Bill Nye. Bill focused on the need to bring comedy back into advertising. He noted the declining number of humorous ads around the world (a 33% decrease from 2000 to 2020). He also stated that laughter lowers stress, improves memory, and enhances attention and engagement. So, what is the takeaway? Brands shouldn’t shy away from incorporating humor into their campaigns.
‘Til next time!
Christina is stepping away from this experience with more confidence in her work, inspiration to succeed, and motivation to give the world of advertising her all. We are so proud of Christina for getting the full Cannes Lions experience and are excited to utilize her newly learned skills in our work.
