I’ve always been drawn to creativity.
As a kid, I loved art, creative projects, and anything that gave me the chance to make something unique. Saturday morning art classes became part of my routine, and if there was a creative element involved in a school project, you can bet I spent far more time on that than the actual assignment itself. One summer vacation in Watch Hill, I even begged my parents for an art box from a local boutique — because to me, that was the ultimate souvenir.
Looking back, creativity was always the thing I naturally gravitated toward.
That continued through high school, where art classes remained some of my favorites. But in college, despite minoring in Communications, I slowly drifted away from hands-on creative work — and I missed it more than I realized.
So naturally, I found another outlet: themed holiday parties for my extended family.
And when I say themed, I mean fully committed. One year, I created a “25 Days of Christmas” game board for my family to use on Christmas Day — complete with themed challenges and activities. Did anyone ask for it? No. Was it necessary? Definitely not. But I absolutely loved the process of planning, creating, and bringing the idea to life. Honestly, I probably had more fun making it than my family had participating.
That love of creativity never really went away. Even now, I still love creating themed trivia for family and friends, designing invitations for birthdays and events, and finding ways to make even small gatherings feel personalized and memorable. I’ve always loved a good theme, and over time, that mix of creativity, storytelling, and connection naturally found its way into my professional life — even if the path there wasn’t completely straightforward.
Before fully stepping into marketing and digital engagement work, I spent several years working in public education in a variety of roles, ultimately serving as a Family Community Connection Coordinator through 2023. That experience taught me so much about communication, relationship-building, and creating meaningful engagement opportunities for families and communities — skills I still use every day.
At the same time, I was also building experience through my work with First Position Media.
My connection with Founder and CEO Sarah actually goes back to shortly after college, when we met while working on a congressional campaign together. While the campaign itself was short-lived, our friendship wasn’t. Over the years, we stayed connected through different stages of life and career changes, always bonding over creativity, communications, and storytelling. After First Position Media officially launched, I began working with Sarah on one of the agency’s early clients, Girl Scouts of Connecticut.
Over time, that creative partnership continued to grow.
Today, I work as the Assistant Director of Digital Engagement at Connecticut College while also working with FPM across several clients in different industries. Every day looks a little different, which is one of my favorite parts of the work. Whether I’m developing social media campaigns, writing content, brainstorming creative concepts, or helping bring a client’s story to life, I still approach projects with the same excitement I had creating elaborate holiday games for my family.
For me, creativity has never just been about design or aesthetics. It’s about storytelling, connection, and creating something people remember. And at the center of it all? Probably still my love of a good theme.
